RPM – Natural Wines & Spirits brings together two couples — José Roseira and Catarina Leitão, Daniel Pires and Marianne Baillot — around an old Quinta in the lower Tâmega, ten kilometres from the river Douro, in the transition zone between the Vinho Verde and Douro wine regions.
On a south-facing slope, sheltered from the north winds and nestled between watercourses, the granite terroir drinks from the mineral richness of the Verín-Chaves-Vidago hydrothermal system, which rises from a spring on a property adjacent to the Quinta. On the higher ground, vines more than sixty years old bring together several native varieties, Arinto chief among them. Our wines are foot-trodden and macerated in 250-year-old granite lagares, then fermented in concrete tanks with minimal intervention — always guided by the aim of conveying the singular character of their grapes and their terroir.
Quinta da Livração, where we grow the grapes for RPM, has belonged to José Roseira’s family since 1935. Of its eleven hectares, three are given over exclusively to vines; the rest is three hectares of woodland and a variety of small organic crops.
Between 2010 and 2015, working the old vines inherited from his grandfather, José Roseira — a writer with close ties to contemporary art — made his first natural, minimal-intervention wines here. A new chapter opened in 2022/2023. Through his friendship with Daniel Pires, who leads the Maus Hábitos cultural centre in Porto, José came to know the winemaker Ricardo Moreira and the Penhó wines; Ricardo was central to shaping those first wines and to the early choices of this new phase, which he accompanied through its first two years before leaving at the beginning of 2026.
What remains is a project shared by two couples and two worlds. José and Catarina Leitão — a visual artist whose work centres on eco-art and ecofeminism, and who collaborates in running the estate — tend the land; the Quinta is, in itself, a synthesis of their two practices. Daniel Pires, whose life has run from the plastic arts to music, and Marianne Baillot, who comes from dance, carry the cultural pulse that gives the wines their names and their rhythm. From this meeting of land and culture we make wines that reward both in their first year and their eleventh.
